Upon the start of 11th grade, we gave presentations to our Science Research classes about our summer work. Many of us entered regional competitions and made it to the semi-final or final rounds of these competitions. While submitting to competitions, writing papers, and helping out sophomores in their lab searches, we spent time in the lab every week. We then presented yet again, but this time, on the background of our research. We have created close working relationships with our mentors and other lab members. As the school year comes to an end and summer begins, we are looking ahead towards another summer full of learning, science, and development as young people in academia.
Not only are we looking ahead, but we are looking backwards into our time in the program thus far with such gratitude towards all of the individuals involved in each of our journeys. Our Science Research teachers have led us not only through work in our labs, but have taught us so much by helping us out of the lab. We have begun to learn how to write scientifically and professionally because of their hard work. These writing skills, along with our ever-developing presentation skills, have already assisted us outside of our labs and the Science Research classroom. We have loved hearing from guest speakers and learning from our peers in the rest of the program. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts to anyone and everyone who has supported us through our second year in the Science Research Program. We’re looking forward to progressing in our work over the summer and we cannot wait to see what lies ahead for us in our senior year!
