Class of 2025 Letter of Reflection

When we started this school year, the Independent Science Research Program seemed full of incredibly daunting tasks: deciding what topic to research, reading professional research papers, reaching out to random labs asking to work with them - how could we ever do any of that? However, with the help of our incredible teachers as well as our more experienced peers, we learned how to do all of these things and more.

Since the beginning of the school year, we have spent time diving into science fields we are interested in, reading research papers, and creating presentations. We have taken many painstaking hours drafting and sending emails to potential mentors, and we have found matches with labs across the city with research projects that we are so excited to begin working on this summer. We have also improved our public speaking skills, learned the importance of balancing text with images, and gained more insight into the professional field of science.

We are so grateful to be a part of the wonderful Independent Science Research Program this year and are so thankful for everyone that has helped us get to the Science Research Symposium. We have learned so much from our science research teachers, our peers, and our newly acquainted mentors, and have appreciated every minute. We are so excited to continue on this path throughout the next two years.
