Pacific University School of Audiology
The mission of the School of Audiology is to prepare doctors of audiology in an innovative educational environment who are clinically outstanding, committed to life-long learning, and leaders in their community and profession.
The School of Audiology offers an innovative and accelerated three-year professional block-model curriculum leading to the doctor of audiology (AuD) degree. As part of Pacific University's renowned College of Health Professions, the School of Audiology focuses on teaching and evidence-based clinical practice in an interprofessional and highly collegial health professions learning environment.
The school has onsite simulation labs to prepare students with hands-on training starting in year one. The school also offers audiologic services in its on-campus Pacific EarClinic, enhancing the student experiences while also serving and supporting the community. The inaugural cohort of AuD students, the Class of 2015, matriculated with the Fall 2012 semester.
You can view the School of Audiology's Academic Catalog to learn more about our program and the classes we offer.

Experiential Education Opportunities
Our preceptors do not have to be ASHA certified, but they do have to hold state license and be in good standing with their licensing board. Additionally, the preceptors do not have to hold an Au.D. to supervise our students.
By the time our students start their externships during their third year, they have completed all of the traditional didactic coursework. In addition to the hands-on clinical practical experience in the first two years of the program, our students are given clinical assignments weekly in our state-of-the-art Simulation Lab (SIMLab). These assignments may range from audiometric testing of non-classmates, to performing real-ear on a classmate with a mild-gain hearing aid, to threshold and diagnostic ABRs.
Feedback to the school and to the students is provided via an online tracking system. We currently use CALIPSO. In CALIPSO, the preceptor is asked to review and approve the student’s patient clock hours. At the middle of each semester, the preceptor is asked to complete a brief midterm evaluation or "pulse check". At the end of each semester, the preceptor is asked to complete a comprehensive performance evaluation (based on necessary knowledge and skills) in CALIPSO and review this with the student.
