8th Grade Accelerated Math is Algebra 1.
The first half of 8th grade, we focus very heavily on solving multi step equations and inequalities and solving absolute value equations. Students become very comfortable solving complicated linear equations and learn to write equations to solve problems.
We then move on to the study of functions. We explore slope and linear functions. The students learn to write a linear function rule from a graph, a table of values or a real world problem. They graph linear functions from an equation, using the slope and y-intercept or using the x and y intercepts and learn to write equations for lines parallel and perpendicular to a given line.
We have just begun the study of exponential functions and students are learning to use an exponential equation to solve problems involving exponential growth, depreciation, compound interest and radioactive half-life.
