We had a great 6th grade class last year. The students made tremendous growth and I am excited to move forward to 7th grade. We are using a math program designed especially for 7th Grade Accelerated Math and was created to prepare them for Algebra 1 in 8th grade. Our new program has a lot of online resources including video tutorials to help your child if he does not understand the homework. Also most of the homework I assign will be done online and the students will be able to check their answers to see if they are correct. If they get the wrong answer, they will have a chance to correct it and the program will guide them to the correct answer. They will then have the opportunity to try another similar problem. This is a great resource that I think will make homework a much better learning experience.
We started our year with a quick review of operations with fractions, decimals and integers and some simple one-step equations. We are now working on comparing rational and irrational numbers and finding square roots and cube roots and using the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems. We have learned about multiplying and dividing expressions with zero and negative exponents and scientific notation. We then moved on to study proportions and percents.
We have just begun the study of algebraic expressions and will then use that knowledge to solve multi step equations.
