In 5th grade, students explored the theme "Where We Are in Place and Time" by connecting historical events, global issues, and cultural experiences to their present lives. They gained a deeper understanding of environmental challenges by creating presentations on global warming, highlighting its impact and importance in today’s world. A trip to Citi Field provided them with an opportunity to reflect on how the location of their community ties into the broader history of New York City and sports culture. Additionally, students studied the explorers of the New World, learning about the significant role these figures played in shaping history and influencing global connections.

Beyond academics, 5th graders worked to make their school environment more inclusive and comfortable by designing "safe spaces" for students to relax and reflect. These efforts reinforced their awareness of creating a supportive community. Furthermore, through the experience of learning African Dance, students celebrated cultural diversity, exploring traditions that connect people across time and space. Each of these activities encouraged students to think critically about their place in the world and how they can make a positive impact on the future, showing that learning extends beyond the classroom and into the community and the global stage.
