"STEAM education creates innovators, educators, leaders, and learners who are prepared to solve the challenges of today and tomorrow"- Sylvia Libow Martinez ( Electrical Engineer)
Students will showcase their Amazing STEAM projects at the annual Art Show on May 1st.
Animal Algorithms
K-1 students combined their knowledge of words, letters, and animals in Scratch Jr. Learners used block code to guide an animal through its natural habitat with the letters that make its name.
Materials Science: Form and Function
Students in grades 2-3 learned about the importance of pollen and seeds and the ways they connect to the tools and machines we use every day. Scholars designed a seed machine to help with the problem of deforestation.
Input/Output Computer Systems
The students in grades 4-5 strengthened their creative writing skills by being digital storytellers. Learners used Scratch Jr. to create code for an original three-part story and an original game.
Q2- Grades K to 5
In Quarter 2 Kindergarten and 1st Grade focused on living things around us, specifically plants and animals. Students explored how both living things are similar and different. Learners also became more familiar with what is found on a healthy tree.
Unit Title- Living Things: Needs and Impacts (PLTW)
For this second quarter, the Second and Third Grade students gained a deeper understanding of computer games. Students learned that the coding of a simple digital game can be similar to putting together a puzzle or navigating through a maze.
Unit Title: Grids and Games (PLTW)
Throughout Quarter 2 Fourth and Fifth Grade students made interesting discoveries in the body structures of various animals. Learners engaged in research and hands-on exploration of how the lack of a specific body part can affect an animal's daily functioning and compare it to ourselves.

Q1- Grade K to 5
STEAM utilizes the Engineering Design Process in student inquiry and exploration:
Ask-Imagine-Plan-Create-Experiment-Improve
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is an activity, project, and problem-based (APB) instructional design approach that focuses on hands-on, real-world activities, projects, and problems that help students understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in the classroom may be applied in everyday life.
The Kindergarten and First Grade classes created pop-up maps that could guide a bear through the forest to his home. The pop-up elements were things that both the students and bear see in the forest; grass, trees, bear's house, etc.
Second and Third Grade made aluminum boats that they tested in a container of water. Students researched the kind of boat they wanted to build and tested it's strength and ability to float.
Grades Four and Five designed free-standing bridge structures using paper, cardboard, aluminum foil, and pipe cleaners. Students researched the types of bridges they could build, and tested the strength of their bridges with different classroom materials.
