Fourth and fifth graders were learning about telling where they are going in Spanish by responding to the question A donde vas? In this picture you can see students doing activities using the Rockalingua Spanish interactive app.
In Quarter 2 we focused on the Spanish calendar with the months of the year and the days of the week in Spanish. Students were able to say their birthday in Spanish, tell the date, and tell what festive days we celebrate each month. Here are a few pictures of students working and what they have worked on.
In Quarter 1, we focused on celebrating Spanish Heritage Month which spanned from September 15 - October 15. Two events were planned for this special occasion; A Spanish potluck breakfast and a musical presentation done by Mariachi Hidalgo. Both events were successful. See the pictures below. One of the main objectives of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month was to highlight the Spanish culture so students become even more aware and appreciative of the culture that surrounds them.
Open-Minded was chosen as the learner profile for these 2 events because students as well as teachers are becoming aware and appreciative of other cultures.
In this case, the ATL skill that was chosen was Thinking. As students learn more of the Mexican and Spanish culture in general, they should begin to think of their own culture and begin to make comparisons.
