ENL services are tailored to support students' language development at each grade level. In Kindergarten, the focus is on speaking and listening to help students build foundational communication skills. First grade extends this focus to include speaking, listening, and writing, encouraging students to express themselves both verbally and in writing. By second grade, students shift toward a more balanced approach, focusing on listening, reading, and writing to strengthen their language abilities. Third grade continues this progression, with an emphasis on listening, reading, and writing, further developing their literacy skills and comprehension. These targeted ENL services ensure that students progress steadily in their language development
Kindergarten
Kindergarten ENL students are learning to answer questions about the story Bird and Bear by listening closely to what is being asked and using complete sentences to share what they have learned. As they engage with the story, they focus on understanding key details and responding in full sentences, which helps them practice their language skills. This process allows them to demonstrate their comprehension of the story while building their ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both in class discussions and everyday conversations
Third grade
Third grade ENL students have been focusing on reviewing past units on colors, numbers, and body parts, with an emphasis on improving their reading and writing skills. Through interactive lessons, they have been practicing reading sentences and writing responses related to these topics. This targeted approach helps them strengthen their vocabulary and language structure, while also building confidence in using the language to describe everyday concepts like colors, numbers, and parts of the body. These activities provide a foundation for more complex language skills in the future.
First/Second Grade
Second and first grade ENL (English as a New Language) students are actively working on answering questions in complete sentences using sentence starters. This practice helps them develop their language skills in all three learning languages (listening, speaking, and reading). By focusing on responding to questions, they are building confidence in their ability to express themselves clearly. These activities not only support academic growth but also encourage students to use their language skills in everyday conversations with parents, teachers, and friends, fostering effective communication in various settings
Learner Profile
In our classes, students are actively developing their communication skills by sharing ideas, asking questions, and engaging in discussions with their peers and teachers. Whether they are working in groups, answering questions, or participating in classroom activities, students are encouraged to express themselves clearly and listen to others. By using a variety of language strategies, including sentence starters and group collaboration, students are becoming confident communicators, not only in their academic work but also in their daily interactions with others
