Self-Discipline: The Learner Profile for the month of March is Self-Discipline. When students are self-disciplined, they understand that they are using self control. This means that they are trying their best to manage their emotions, thoughts, and actions to make positive choices.
Sharing The Planet: The Impact of Storytelling
An inquiry into the interdependence of human and natural worlds through: rights, responsibilities, and dignity for all.
Inquirer: Students will be inquirers by asking questions that explore how ecosystems are interconnected and how human actions can affect these systems. This will foster a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility.
Communicator: Students will communicate their ideas through opinion writing to express their thoughts on the impact of storytelling and how stories shape ideas and actions. They will also explore scientific and mathematical ideas that connect to the stories and concepts of the environment (e.g., ecosystems and measurement), allowing students to express their opinions about how they can protect and care for the world.
Reading: Students have been learning about fiction and non-fiction texts. Students have been studying closely why authors use predictable patterns and structures in stories such as: beginning, middle, and end.
Writing: Students have been learning about writing how-to books. Students have been exploring the different forms that stories can take (oral, written, visual) and examine their structure (beginning, middle, end) to understand how these elements shape how a story is told and received.
