March 2025
During the month of March, students began the unit of inquiry Patterns and Perspectives. During this unit, students will find patterns in the changing moon throughout the month and focus on how perspective can shift a culture while learning about Native American groups. They also learned about how geography, or a habitat can affect the animals and plants that live there. Students created dioramas to teach others about a habitat of their choosing.
Learner Profile
This month students focused on the learner profile attributes of communicator and inquirer. Communicators share their ideas respectfully and listen to others. Students can be good communicators by sharing about their day and listening as others share their day at home! Inquirers ask questions and always try to learn more. Students can be good inquirers by asking questions about the world around them. Encourage this behavior by listening to your child and talking to them about things they see or experience. We'd love to see pictures of your child showing these attributes!
Approaches to Learning:
These are skills that support a child's learning in and out of school. This month students learned to support their learning by using communication skills. Students talked about their ideas, asked each other questions, and listened to their peers. We are also working on agreeing and disagreeing with an opinion and giving our reasons to support our idea.
First Grade visited the Brooklyn Transit Museum to learn about our transportation system from past to present. We learned about how trains were updated as technology advanced and got to sit on trains that were 100 years old!
