Eliminate Discrimination

Malala's Magic Pencil

"Malala's Magic Pencil" by Malala Yousafzai read by Mrs. Conrad

Listen to this beautiful picture book about Malala's own experience of struggling to have a fair chance at a quality education and the chance to go to school. Discrimination keeps kids all over the world from going to school. Discrimination is when a person is treated differently (not in a good way) because of some aspect of their identity.

Ask yourself these questions:

Why are millions of children and adolescents around the world not going to school? What keeps them from going to school? How can we help?

What would you do with a magic pencil? What would you change about your own school or education?

Pick some activities or projects to explore this topic. Don't forget to share on Flipgrid!

Make your own Magic Pencil

Follow these origami windmill directions to make a "magical" pencil. If you don't have these supplies, decorate your own with duct tape, pipe cleaners, sharpies, whatever you'd like!

Here's our example. We made a "slo-mo" video with a phone. Can you make a video on Flipgrid to share? What makes it spin?
