We are equally committed to sending all of our students into the world with the knowledge and skills to contribute to our community, economy and society in meaningful ways. To meet these commitments, we will strive to create opportunities for every student to explore career and learning options that are relevant to their personal pathway.
The OVHS Career & Workforce Development Program presents opportunities for students who are searching for a pathway and may not be engaged in a program of study that makes sense for them. This program fills a gap with goals to find and support the students who will enter directly into the workforce after graduation and may not be prepared for that future.
“Every student, every day, whatever it takes” is the cornerstone of our framework, flexible to meet the needs of the individual student. This is not a program to replace any other, but a program to address the inevitable gaps that form between the intent and application of other programs.
Students in the PennTech Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship program complete a facilitated independent study program during the spring semester of their junior or senior year to prepare for the Certified Manufacturing Assistant (CMfgA) exam. CMfgA certification is issued by SME, a nonprofit association of manufacturing professionals.
Students work independently with an OVHS educator to complete instruction in industry applied mathematics, occupational safety, lean manufacturing, manufacturing tools and equipment and fundamental manufacturing processes. Online coursework is supplemented with hands-on application labs and job-site exposure.
Upon completion of their coursework, students take the CMfgA certification exam and participate in an eastern-Pennsylvania manufacturing industry day at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA.
The program is administered through a workforce development grant and partnership.
Students seeking careers in long haul trucking, warehouse and materials management, heavy equipment construction and farming can learn to operate 16 different pieces of equipment in a customized independent study program that could lead to OSHA and Fork truck certifications and CDL training programs.
This program is designed to prepare students aspiring to heavy equipment or diesel operation programs, support our students in their supervised agricultural educational programs, and prepare students for CDL programs after high school. It offers a preview of programs available at BCTC, and a solution to students who discover a career interest in heavy equipment but do not have the opportunity to participate in BCTC programs.
The Tenstar Simulation program will be new for 2023-24 school year, and students in this program may pursue credentials and pre-apprenticeship programs as opportunities develop.
