For the Youth Tellers initial project, we wanted to create something that would introduce the world to who we are, in a concise, creative way. We chose these line drawings (partnered with our Youth Teller Guides) to not only show who we are factually, but creatively as well.
See how you can make your own line drawing by watching this video created by Youth Teller, Devin!
“Art is our escape from reality where we can do everything we want. We can make things up and have an impact on the audience and their emotions. It is also a way to get your voice heard to tell your message to the whole world.”
“I want to use art to give those that feel they don’t have a voice the opportunity to feel heard. I want to paint a picture of a new reality that inspires hope, strength, and peace of mind. That’s what Youth Tellers is to me. A place where I can do that and so much more. I won’t only make my voice heard, but others... and I don’t just mean humans. 🐶🐱🐷🐮🐥🦁 You might think this is just a picture, but to me, it’s the way I express myself. That’s why art is important because it allows for people like me to tell their stories."
"Art is all around us, whatever we look at is a work of art. That building, the plane, the statue, the painting ... it's all art. Different people do different things, but always with a goal and a message. A man through art shows his feelings, attitude, thoughts, hope, or whatever comes to his mind while making art. On one hand, art is also a language, yet it is not said in vain that one picture speaks a thousand words. Now you can see, art is important, and essential to us, humans. No creativity means no art, and no art means boring life."
"Art helps us develop a deeper understanding of our community and surroundings. It is timeless,, and allows for the telling of every story. Art is an experience, a feeling, and a connection. Youth Tellers brings us together to foster an environment of growth and exploration, to share our stories, and to shape our future through art."
"I find art important because it's a unique way for a person to express their thoughts, ideas or feelings through art, showing the world part of themself. With art, we can show some hard or complicated parts of human life and reach more people with good messages."
"Art is something that helps us express our identities and opinions, and it has the power to influence others through the use of creativity. For me, I find it important to understand the importance of art because it is something that provides us with an outlet to share our thoughts, our struggles, and our emotions. Most importantly, art gives us the ability to illustrate who we are as people, and helps us find meaning in our lives in a way that is otherwise difficult to understand."
"Art is important because it allows a break from reality, and helps to mentally transport us to a different time or place. It brings creativity and imagination to life and can evoke several kinds of emotions from people. As for the topic of using our voice, I feel that being able to use your voice means being able to use the advantages you have in life to help others that may not be as fortunate, such as being able to advocate on social media even though there are some people that might not have access to social media. People who are met with such privilege should try to use their voice to make the world a better place."
“Art is significant in connecting individuals. It confronts us with imposing ideas and questions we do not want to answer.”
“For me, using my voice means that what I say matters and what I stand for has significance. I want to use art to create a future that sees a change in society for little girls to be the next CEO, president, Olympian, leader, or doctor.”
"I use photography as an instrument to express my perception of the world. I use it to influence, teach, and clarify my beliefs, culture, and intention as an individual. Youth tellers will be a sanctuary you can have to freely exhibit your artistic concepts, ideas, and opinions that will benefit our future. A project led by the youth, for the welfare of the youth."
"Art is important because it is a tool one can use to tell a story through and is a safe space for one to explore and share their creativity. The beauty of it all is that it's complex, giving people the opportunity to interpret it to how best they see fit. The way I want to use art to heal and to create change is by creating and connecting photography and storytelling to who I am (which can be my own personal struggles and successes) and leaving room to challenge my audience and think about how they may connect to what I'm trying to convey. That's the beauty of art."
"Art allows me to utilize my voice in my own unique way, it allows me to tell stories through a way that reveals who I am as a person. I want to use my art of filmmaking by creating social change throughout the world. I want to travel the world and prove to everyone through my movies, equality is a movement we should all pursue."
"Art is important because not only does it give a way for people to express themselves in ways we can’t sometimes put into words, but it gives people a creative outlet which is important. For me, I want to use art to create a change in the world with something like a short film. I really want it to be focused on the power of kindness its effects on people as well as encouraging them to be kind. I think our world needs some extra encouragement in these times of uncertainty so that we might come out of it stronger, kinder, and better."
"Art is really important to me because it’s a way I can use my voice and express myself. It also lets me put my emotions into something I’m passionate about like photography or ceramics."
“Bring about change, healing, and understanding. I believe that photos have the potential to open the eyes of many and convey powerful stories. Through my work, I hope to bring issues to light and push for progress.”
"Art is so important because it helps people share their thoughts and their feelings in a way that others can understand. I want to use art to educate my peers and other people that might find my art interesting..."
“For as long as I can remember, art has played a vital role in my life. As a two-year-old, markers and watercolors were ways for me to visually show what went on in my mind at a time when I didn’t have the exact words to truly express myself. As time has passed, I’ve cycled through countless mediums: painting, drawing, collaging, jewelry-making, origami, writing poetry, and music, to name a few. Although I recently discovered that photography is the tool that best amplifies my voice and creativity, each medium I’ve experimented with has helped shape who I am, as an artist and individual, and being a part of a creative world has deepened my emotional understanding of others and broadened my perspective of humanity.”
“Art is important because it explores new creative and social possibilities for the world and it can truly change someone's life and the entire collective. Using your voice is contributing to the world and giving a voice to the voiceless. I want to use my art in order to build myself a better creative portfolio for my film career and also teach others to use their creativity for the benefit of themselves.”
“Art is not supposed to change the world, to change practical things, but to change perceptions. Art can change the way we see the world. Art can create an analogy.” JR
“Art is formed from an idea, this idea is kindled and catered until it blossoms into a something tangible. But art can be just a thought, it can be the way the rain falls or the way the wind feels.”
“Art is important because it is a way of expression, a way of joy, a way of making people understand things which can’t be done verbally. In fact, we can say that everything that is beautiful is art. Art is everywhere around us, and not just present in the museums and galleries.”
“Art is important because you can use it to express yourself in many ways. People can use art to express themselves emotionally or physically and they can use art to be creative in so many ways.”
“The aim of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” Aristotle
“Art is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves, and to explore what is possible.” Maryann F. Kohl.
“The beauty of art is for one to give more than one has.” Paul Valery
“What is art? Like a declaration of love: the consciousness of our dependence on each other. A confession. An unconscious act that reflects the true meaning of life — love and sacrifice.” Tarkovsky
"Art connects us with the society, our purpose, and our roots. It also connects us with our unconsciously repressed thoughts, beliefs, wishes, and dreams. Whenever you think your voice can't be heard, you can still use art to express yourself, to send a message, or to share your perspective with the world. Art shapes us, as we shape art, so it is important to use it for the good."
“Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets." Leonardo da Vinci
