Oakland's geography is amazing. It is part of Alameda County and is across from San Francisco. Oakland is far from a small town. It is a large city with many landmarks, The port of oakland which is ia container ship in San Francisco bay, Lake Merritt which is main city attraction, the Oakland Estuary which is like a boarder/bridge that separate Oakland and San Francisco visibly, and it's part of Alameda county. It is also the main spot for transportation with many railways, truck lines and a main shipping port. Oakland was first founded after America obtained California from Mexico in 1848. Before that Oakland was in the estate of Spain. It was claimed to be a town in 1852 and then a city in 1854. It then joined the Alameda county in 1882. Oakland then grew in population very quickly. But, then the 1989 earthquake hit and caused major damage, it also caused a double decker highway to collapse. Then in 1990 a fire caused damage in different parts of the city. (1)
Now Oakland is more special than ever. Tourist come here to see art, the city view, and some landmarks including, Lake Merritt, The Port of Oakland, Oakland Estuary, Fairy land, the Trial and Show Gardens, The Rotary Nature Center, The Oakland Museum, and The Chabot Space and Science Center. (1)
