The Japanese lives had been turned upside down in a matter of days. They were being sent to a camp which was basically prison. Japanese business owners had to sell their stores and anything that coudn't fit in two bags. They could only bring what they could carry. At first they were taken to assembly centers. Then they were relocated to 10 relocation sites. "The relocation centers were in the interior west and Arkansas " (13) They were forced to stay in the relocation centers for 2-4 years. The camps were 1 room barracks, some people had to in horse stalls, The food was terrible and people got constantly sick, some people were separated from their families, there was no privacy whatsoever.
