Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale
Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale
The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) is the rating scale used to assess the quality of the physical environment and interactions between staff and students. The ECERS-R is a tool that is required by California Department of Education (CDE), Early Learning and Care Division (ELCD) to assess the classroom environment of preschool programs as part of the requirements for quality elements of CDE subsidized child care contracts.

Our Early Learning Coaches will be conducting annual ECERS-R observations. There are 3 steps included in this process, which happen in the following order:
1) Observation and Data Collection: Coaches will collect their data through a three-hour classroom observation observation and staff interview.
2) Data Synthesis: After conducting the observation, the coaches will need some time to synthesize the data collected during the observation
3) Feedback: Coaches will share feedback with educators as they develop a plan to address the findings and enhance the quality of the classroom's learning environment.
