Phase 3 Schedule
On Monday, March 23, we began holding scheduled Academic Blocks. Please read the following notes. Students will find the Google Calendar events helpful for updates and connecting online (see top of this page).
Academic Blocks are times teachers will definitely be available at their computers and phones for questions, like “office hours.” During these times, they may also decide to meet with a whole class, small groups, or individuals for instruction, connection, and skill reinforcement. Teachers will likely be available other times too! They'll let you know.
What do students do during Academic Blocks? At the beginning of each block, you need to check your email, the Distance Learning website, and/or Google Classroom (as applicable) for individual teacher instructions. Then, you might work independently on learning challenges and reach out to your teacher with questions. You might log in for a live Google Hangout lesson. You might access a pre-made slideshow or video lesson. You might confer in a small group or individually over Google Hangout, FaceTime or phone call.
What if you cannot connect during a scheduled Academic Block? Now that we are in Phase 3, we are expecting that you will try to connect. We recognize this schedule won’t be perfect for everyone, and that is ok. We are building distance learning slowly as we go with as much thought, intentionality, and sensitivity as we can. We learn from mistakes and will all make improvements through them. Communication is key.
Lunch and SSR. We suggest you keep 12:00 - 1:30 open for lunch and SSR every day, just like during regular school days. If that does not work for you, schedule them in when it does! Remember that you can pick up lunch from New Bedford Public Schools (details here).
Self-directed learning and practice. Sister Sailors are bold, brave, and ground-breaking! You get to apply your skills as a self-directed learner to schedule in your own “Evening Study” homework time, “Super Org” doing clean-up and chores at home, and Fitness workouts following the posted suggestions from Mr. Diaz and friends. There is an optional "drop-in" Evening Study homework help from 4:00 - 6:00 pm Monday - Thursday.
