Program Description: The Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (CLAE) is a free, week-long summer academic program for high school students. CLAE Scholars experience the benefits of a liberal arts college education through classes in science, art, social studies, and technology. Students from across the country are invited to apply for this online academic program. Students who have an interest in African American culture, especially students from the African diaspora, are encouraged to apply. Throughout the week, CLAE Scholars will focus on African American community and identity through the framework of a liberal arts education. CLAE also includes preparation and guidance for the college search and application process. Please note that the selection process for CLAE is competitive, and successful applicants tend to demonstrate not only great academic promise but also a strong level of community involvement.

Program Description: Are you interested in deepening your understanding of marine biology, connecting ith other young women who are equally passionate about the ocean ecosystem, and adding an AWESOME experience to your college applications for FREE? If so, the Girls in Science Fellowship might be right for you! As a fellow, you'll spend a week living on the Sea Education Association campus in Woods Hole and learning from world-renowned women scientists who work at WHOI. You'll get to build and test your own underwater microphone (hydrophone), analyze data from dolphins to (hopefully) reduce the number of dolphins stranded on our beaches, and capture the underwater sounds of whales and dolphins during a whale watch!

Program Description: Designed for high school students who are curious about starting a career in architecture, interior design, landscape design, and more, the Boston Architectural College’s (BAC) Early College Program helps students launch their future in studying design with leading professionals and peers from around the globe.
On-site students will experience live lectures, exercises, site and professional firm visits around Boston, and hands-on design and building in teams. Virtual students will explore case study buildings, attend site and professional firm visits through video streaming and chat, and will also receive kits of materials and supplies to allow them to participate in the hands-on design and building wherever they may be. All students will have access to the latest in design software and computing through either our on-site computer labs or the BAC’s VDI CloudLab. In addition, the sketchbook that all Academy Students receive to work on, this year students will also develop a digital and physical design portfolio, and they will also receive a 3D Printing pen to incorporate into their design explorations during and after Summer Academy.

Program: Women's Technology Program at MIT

Program Description: The Women's Technology Program (WTP) at MIT is a four-week academic program for rising 12th grade students. They have opportunities to explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects. It is specifically geared towards students who:
will be the first in their family to attend college
come from a high school with limited access to STEM classes
and/or who are a low-income person or person of color.
You do NOT have to have taken any engineering classes to apply, but you should have a desire to learn more about engineering and sharpen your skills! Students choose to study either Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) or Mechanical Engineering (ME).

Cost: Participants need to cover travel costs to/from Bar Harbor, ME. There is a local bus available for transportation to Bar Harbor from the MDIBL campus. High school students need to be able to commute to the program each day – talk to Ms. Sanders if you would like to apply; we can work together on housing. Undergraduate participants receive room, board, and a stipend.
Program Description: MDI Biological Laboratory offers summer research fellowship opportunities for high school students & undergrads with an interest in developing scientific research skills. Applicants should desire a hands-on, research training experience within an advanced laboratory. The summer research fellowship programs are highly competitive. Fellows are supervised by a faculty mentor and work alongside undergraduate fellows, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research assistants, thereby gaining experience and perspective on scientific research careers. They conduct an independent research project and present their findings at our annual Summer Science Symposium. Fellows live with other students in an on-campus dormitory (high school students with a resident advisor) and participate together in group activities outside the work day. Meals are provided 7 days a week in the campus dining hall. The only costs borne by the student are travel, laundry and voluntary recreation activities off campus.
