There are important steps that need to be completed over the summer in order to enroll in the fall. The tasks listed below are common for many schools, but check your acceptance materials or contact your school to see if there are other tasks specific to your school.
Please always feel free to reach out to OSS' Graduate Support Office for help, support, or advice. We're here for you!
If you school uses Naviance, be sure to log acceptances and non-acceptances.
If Income Verification from the IRS is required, be sure to send to requesting schools (as needed).
Did you receive a financial aid award letter? If not, contact each school to see what is missing.
You may be able to negotiate a better financial aid package; the Education Opportunity Center or our OSS Graduate Support Office can help.
Once you've selected your college or trade school:
• Notify the school of your acceptance
• Pay deposit (as needed)
Log on to your account at your school to check on any tasks you need to complete over the summer:
Check the status of your financial aid and see if there is anything other documentation you need to submit
Register for your school's orientation. Sign up early since many schools hold orientations early in the summer. Check what documents you are required to bring with you.
You may need to complete online orientation modules (alcohol awareness, consent, etc.)
Check whether you need to complete any placement testing before the start of the semester or orientation.
Complete any housing forms if you'll be living on campus. Often schools require a housing deposit and a housing form. Do this early since some schools may have limited housing.
Check when bill are issued and due. You can call the Financial Aid Office to learn about how you can pay whatever balance is due after your financial aid award. Talk with your Financial Aid counselor and your family about setting up a payment plan.
Learn more about your school's policy around health insurance. Schools have different rules around which students are required to have health insurance. Some colleges' health insurance is expensive; you may already have insurance and be able to apply for a health insurance waiver.
Be sure to submit your immunization record or health record if required.
Submit any other required paperwork and documentation.
Meet or email your academic advisor to figure out which classes you should register for in the fall (see more information about creating an academic plan, below).
