Earth Hour is a global movement which encourages us to think about how to protect our planet. All over the world, people will turn off all non-essential power at 8.30pm on Saturday 30th March for one hour in support of this cause. At St. Martin's, we wanted to do our bit for the environment so we staged our own No Power Hour in school. We took part in lots of activities that didn't involve using electricity. The STEM challenge to build a house from baking materials proved to be the most popular! Click here to see what we got up to
Clyde in the Classroom is a hands-on project which uses the life history of a native Scottish species, the brown trout, to promote awareness of river ecology among young people across the River Clyde catchment. The project is delivered by the Clyde River Foundation and is a great basis for outdoor learning and STEM education.
Our P4 - P7 pupils were involved in this and they recently took the fish that they had been looking after to set them free in to the River Leven. To read more about what was involved, click here.

We have been contacted about an exciting opportunity for our young people to showcase their artistic talents. Please see below for further details:
'I’m getting in touch regarding a Year of Young People opportunity that’s taking place in Balloch at the Loch Lomond Centre on Sunday 4 November from 11-4. This a free art workshop that we thought some of your pupils might be interested in.
ScotArt is a nationwide youth engagement project that’s asking young people living in 14 regions of Scotland to identify an iconic image or symbol that represents why or what they love about their region.
Each symbol will be made into an incredible wicker sculpture by our Lead Artist and showcased at the Edinburgh Torchlight Procession, to mark the finale of Scotland’s Year of Young People.
To find out each region’s symbol, our Young Champions are leading workshops, inviting young people (aged 8-26) and youth groups along, and through fun activities and discussion, choosing the final symbol. Following this, the young participants will have an opportunity to work with our Lead Artist and make their own artwork out of wicker, wire and spraypaint (see pictures below).
The regional workshop for Dunbartonshire & Argyll & Bute will be taking place on Sunday 4 November at the Loch Lomond Centre in Balloch.
This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to represent their region, express themselves creatively, and make their own artwork. If this is something that you’re interested in, please get in touch to let me know. See our flyer below for more details'
Please take a moment to read the following letter that has been received from the Chief Education Officer for West Dunbartonshire Council. It is an invitation to be a part of a parent forum across all schools in WDC and have the opportunity to listen to and discuss upcoming plans within education.
The first meeting is scheduled for 18th September at Vale of Leven Academy.
As we are a Digital School, we encourage our pupils to use the internet in a safe, learning way. Each pupil has their own ourcloud account which gives them access to Google apps. We use Chromebooks in school so please take a moment to read the attached information sheet about this.
