The hook for this project took the form of a real life letter from the RSPB nature reserve just along the road from Gartocharn Primary School. The "Hook" was that the RSPB asked the children if they would become "Goose Guardians" and help protect these very special birds that come to Gartocharn every year.

The numbers of Greenland White Fronted Geese had been declining as a result of climate change and the RSPB wanted the children's help in helping with this problem.
