Supporting your child in starting school
It is important that your child feels calm and excited about starting school. Offer them reassurance that they are going to have LOTS of fun. At Edinbarnet, we adopt a Learning through Play approach. We are fortunate enough that we have lots of space. This means that our children can experience learning in a traditional classroom as well as a fantastic learning through play environment. Our learning environment does not differ greatly from the children’s nurseries, this should ensure a smoother transition in settling the children into their school routine.
There are lots of things you can do to support your child in starting school. It is important that they begin to become independent in their self help skills. This means being able to do things such as putting on a jacket, their shoes and going to the toilet by themselves.

Do not panic, in your child’s first week at school we will be hosting parent workshops each day at 2.30pm. These workshops will equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support your child in their journey through Primary 1. These will also be followed up individual 'Settling in' Meetings with you and your child's Primary 1 teacher.
