Welcome, I hope this can be a great resource for you to use this year.
It’s not a big secret to anyone who knows me – The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite books which was then turned into a movie. I have loved it since I was a child, and my obsession for it entered family lore. My parents and brothers grew to ENDURE the yearly ritual of watching it with me when it ran on TV annually. I was gifted a video of the MGM classic one Christmas, which allowed me watch it on a VCR. (Yes, a VCR!) Fast forward to today, I can stream the "blockbuster" anytime I want.
Anyway, having read and watched this movie now for 29+ years, I see a reoccurring message of ENDURANCE throughout the cinematic classic. The main character, Dorothy Gale, ENDURED growing up with her aunt and uncle in Kansas while living a meager life, she was caught up in a cyclone (tornado), transported to the magical Land of OZ, and told the only way she could go home was to destroy the villain of the story. Dorothy and the friends she meets on the yellow brick road, ENDURE the journey together finding that their love, courage, and intelligence help them make it to OZ, and eventually to find their heart's desire..., home.
Similarly, our journey along life’s path is strewn with difficulties, obstacles, feeling lost, and being caught up in worldly troubles. Yet, we are called to ENDURE, in the twelfth chapter of Hebrews, verses 2-3 we are reminded to “run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
We are to ENDURE when things get tough and to rely on the ONE who ENDURED humiliation, rejection, even death on a cross. Jesus came to show His love, courage, and intelligence to those who know Him to be the one true God. We have been given the best example of ENDURANCE possible – the ONE who ENDURED it all for us – our heart's desire - as He shows us our way home on a different yellow brick road.
Looking forward to walking with you this year,
Mrs. C-G
