RE: Grading Guidelines
10% - participation – to include, but not limited to, thoughtful classroom discussion, using time wisely, and journal writing.
40% - tests and projects – to encourage retention of subject matter read and studied.
50% - homework – daily workbook assignments in reading, vocabulary and grammar.
My hope is that these guidelines will emphasize the importance of remembering what is taught, discussed, read, and consumed throughout the week. Sometimes learning occurs and then is quickly discarded, but learning is about building on the subject matter, and retaining what we have already learned. My anticipation for you, is that this would encourage a more intentional willingness, and ownership in the results in the three areas being graded. I also believe that this will provide a better snapshot of your work and progress in my ELA classes.
