Catholic Ethos 2025/2026
What is a Catholic School Today?
A Catholic school is a place of learning rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It nurtures the faith of Catholic pupils while welcoming and respecting children of all faiths and none.
Oulart NS continues to draw on this rich tradition while engaging confidently and compassionately with an increasingly diverse community.
Who is it for?
Our school is for families who value an education grounded in faith, hope, love, respect, and justice.
While children are supported in their Catholic faith formation, every child, whether Catholic or not, is valued, encouraged, and affirmed as a unique person made in the image and likeness of God.
Faithful to Catholic Tradition
We celebrate Catholic identity through prayer, liturgy, and sacrament, keeping the connection with our parish in Oulart and the Diocese of Ferns strong and visible.
Education for the Whole Child
We provide a holistic education that develops academic ability, creativity, emotional well-being, and spirituality. Every child is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Shared Values
We emphasise Gospel values—respect, compassion, justice, service, peace, and joy—which are shared human values that unite rather than divide. These provide common ground for all families in our school.
Community and Partnership
We work in partnership with parents, parish, and the wider community, recognising that together we nurture children to become caring, responsible, and resilient members of society.
Inclusive and Welcoming
We honour the presence of children of other faiths and those of no faith. Their dignity, individuality and experiences are respected and valued in our school community.
Visible Ethos
Anyone who walks through our school should experience welcome, joy, kindness, respect for diversity, and a sense of the sacred that reflects our Catholic tradition.
Reflection Questions for Staff & Board of Management in 2025
How is our Catholic ethos evident in our school?
In what ways does our daily practice reflect Gospel values that are meaningful to all?
How do we ensure Catholic children are supported in their faith while children of other traditions feel included?
How do we celebrate diversity in a way that strengthens our Catholic ethos?
What one concrete step can we take this year to live our ethos more visibly and inclusively?
Prayer
Lord, help us to take an active part in creating in this school a faith community where all feel welcomed and cherished. Guide us, so that we fully understand what a privilege it is to belong to this community which values respect, peace, justice, and joy.
May our words and deeds reflect these Christian values. Help us to support a learning environment that enables everyone to achieve their full potential and develop their natural talents.
Holy Spirit, guide us as we strive to be people of faith, understanding, and kindness in our school.
Amen.
