First Penance

As is our school tradition we request that any parents of children in 1st class who can donate baked or bought goodies for the after Penance celebration in the school drop them to the school on Thursday. This will be paid back to your children next year when they celebrate.
Celebrating 40 years of Scoil Mochua
On Thursday March 26th we will celebrate 40 years of Scoil Mochua. Our celebrations will begin with a mass in the church at 12:30 - we ask everyone to be in the church by 12:20 at the latest.
This will be followed by an assembly, performances and demonstrations in the school and refreshments for all. Further details will be issued closer to the date.
Health and Safety:
Road Safety:
We ask that parents use the crossing when collecting and dropping off their children so that it becomes an ingrained habit for your child.
We would like to remind parents that there is no parking in the bus bay or on double yellow lines - this is to ensure the safety of all children.
Children should be in school between 8:50 and 9:00 each day. No children should be on the school grounds before school times.
Digital Devices in School:
In keeping with our policy, children are not permitted to have phones, tablets or electronic devices in class unless specifically requested by their teacher for a supervised activity. This includes any kind of device or wearable that can take pictures, make calls, connect to the internet or record in any way.
If your child needs such a device for after school activities they should leave it with Bridget on their way in in the morning and collect it at home time. Devices should be turned off.
Enrolments for the 2026/2027 year:
Enrolment forms for Junior Infants and any other pupils who wish to start school in September 2025 continue to be available from the school office from 9am. to 2:40 p.m.
Healthy Eating:
We encourage all children to bring a healthy option including fruit or vegetables for their small break each day. Fizzy drinks, sweets, bars, chocolates, crisps, popcorn and biscuits are not encouraged.
Extra activities:
Pancake Tuesday:
The children from Ms. Griffin’s 6th class made pancakes for the school on Shrove Tuesday. The money raised on the day was donated to the local Story Telling House.
World Book Day:
World book day is on Thursday March 5th. Last year’s theme of Bedtime Stories proved very popular with the children and we will repeat it this year.
Children may wear their pyjamas and bring in their favourite book.
Visit to Fr. Murphy Centre, Boolavogue
The 6th class pupils thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Fr. Murphy Centre in Boolavogue on February 27th.
They had a guided tour of the facility and learned some very interesting facts about the 1798 rebellion and about Fr. Murphy
Thank you to Ms. Griffin for organising this mini tour and to all the parents who provided transport on the day.
Coicís na Gaeilge:
This year’s events will begin on Monday, March 9th to 13th. We will have our Lá Glas and Céilí Mór on Friday, March 13th. Míle buíochas to Ms. Lenihan for organising a wide range of fun activities for all classes. Further information will be sent to parents via Aladdin in the next week.
Soccer Blitz:
Good luck to the 4th/5th & 6th class boys’ and girls’ teams who will attend the soccer blitz on March 25th. Ms Griffin will issue more details to them, closer to the time.
Rackard League hurling and camogie:
Both boys’ and girls’ teams are back in training and eagerly awaiting their matches.
Girls: - At home v Kilrush Wednesday March 4th
Boys: - awaiting confirmation of match date and venue
Further details will be sent out to the teams.

Parents’ Association News
Split the pot:
As always, this is our ongoing fundraiser. To provide all those little extras.... such as ingredients for pancake Tuesday this term.
Many thanks to everyone who plays. If you're not in you can't win.
6th class leavers hoodies:
We are in the process of organising 6th class leavers hoodies. A now loved tradition for our kids leaving us this year. Colours have been picked by the kids and we hope to have these for the final term of the year.
Every parent/guardian is welcome to attend our meetings, date and times are up on the PA Facebook page in advance of meetings.
Any help is very much appreciated.
