Iowa Academic Standards

Iowa Academic Standards Recommendations

  1. Use pre-existing and formative student data to identify and serve student needs.

  2. Regularly collect, analyze, and respond to student level formative data.

  3. Teachers will teach grade level standards while addressing identified student learning gaps.

  4. Survey staff to determine professional learning needs.

  5. Teachers will collaborate to finalize scopes and sequences that utilize essential standards by unit, sequenced throughout the course (year or semester).

  6. Professional development priorities include: accelerating student learning, unit development, sequencing, data analysis for instruction, and continued learning on teaching in a digital environment.

  7. Small group skilled-based instructional sessions will be offered to all students either virtually or face-to-face.

  8. Instructional coaches will assist teachers and support educators in reviewing student data and determining appropriate instructional strategies.

  9. Regardless of the learning environment, OCSD teachers will leverage high impact instructional strategies to promote student engagement. They will provide timely feedback with opportunity for growth. They will elicit student voice with questioning and facilitate small group discussions that focus on problem solving.
