OUR HERITAGE
September-December
Students will learn all about themselves at school and at home. A great focus will be placed on the importance of family and traditions. The goal of this unit is for students to:
- describe the difference between rules and routines in school and home.
- identify what makes them special and unique.
- identify the members in their family.
- describe the role they play in their family.
- compare and contrast their family traditions with those of their peers.
OUR COMMUNITY
January- March
Students will learn about their community and how they play a vital role in it. Through many interactive activities and community walks, students will be able to:
- give an example of how they can be a responsible member of their community.
- identify and describe the roles of different community helpers.
- identify and describe different jobs that people do and the tools they use.
- recommend ways that people can improve their environment at home, school and around their community.
- locate and describe different places in their community.
- describe animal habitats.
OUR EARTH
April- June
During these months students will learn about our earth. They will explore and discover living and non living things that make up our beautiful planet. Through many hands on activities that uses their five senses, students will gain a love and appreciation for our environment. The goal of this unit is for students to:
- identify living and non living things.
- identify and describe what living things need to survive.
- compare and contrast actions that are good vs bad for our environment.
- brainstorm ways in which they can help our earth.
