What has the Yearbook team been up to lately? The yearbook team has been busy with various tasks, the most important of which is developing a Yearbook theme. We have also been playing multiple team-building games and working on a style guide for the yearbook. The style guide dictates how each page is built so the book is cohesive. Yearbook has also completed a photography challenge of our choice from the SD Museum of Photographic Art, the most popular being the still-life style. The Yearbooks are now on Pre-Sale until October 31st. In the Yearbook we take pictures of different events that are going on during the year, this may include events like Lunch on the Lawn, Fright Night, school dances, fun runs, and many more, so don’t be alarmed if you see someone with a camera. You may catch us around campus popping into classrooms and interviewing students. We also run plenty of fundraisers during the year where our profits go straight into the yearbook community and we have our very own Facebook and Instagram page, so please follow!

Mrs. Ruda’s class rotated between free time and an activity called “centers.” “Centers” are when students work with Mrs. Ruda to learn letters, draw, and write on a whiteboard or tablet. During free time, students play with Legos, read books, and mess around.
When we visited Mrs. Romero’s class this month, Mrs. Romero talked to her class about a book, and the students made “All About Me” posters. After this, the class rotated between playing on the playground, and practicing writing the letter “B”.

This month’s curriculum for September has included a lot of new material for our second graders! To help build a better classroom community they work on communication skills and we encourage them to get to know each other. To help build these very smart second grader’s minds they work on mental math strategies to add and subtract. Additionally, getting to learn about the environment that surrounds us is crucial!

Mrs. Sanford's class has started the month of September by getting to know one another and practicing communication with each other. It has been a change for most of the students since two grades were combined into one classroom. An upcoming event that Mrs. Sanford's 4/5th class was excited about was the Fun Run. Right now though, Mrs. Sanford ´ s class is coming together by showing each other kindness, staying on task, and learning how to interact with one another.

Back to School Night was riveting in many ways. Although quite busy and full of foot traffic, it was eventful and the teachers offered knowledge to families about the curriculum used this year.
The format for this year’s Back to School night for middle school students was a “full day” where families were taken through each class period. Mrs. Melgoza, the middle school history teacher, says that her favorite part was “Seeing the interaction between the students and their families, and the parents getting the opportunity to see the place where their children are learning.” In addition, she said on a personal note that, “It was really heartwarming and exciting to see her former students again.”
For the elementary Back to School Night, all families were taken through the material of the term for the next year. It was packed with families eager to learn about their students’ new year.

Stuart Mesa’s Lunch on the Lawn event invites parents to enjoy lunches with their child throughout the school year. This recurring event helps foster a strong sense of community. Additionally, parents have the option to get Jersey Mike’s through our PTO. Additionally, students are open to get school lunch or have their parent(s) bring lunch. (Disclaimer: Parents are NOT permitted to get school lunch). Lastly, we have yet to confirm that a lemonade stand will be available for future Lunch on the Lawns, however, we will be sure to announce in the case if it is approved or not.

Hello Stuart Mesa this month's Fun Run was very exciting and a thank you to everyone who pitched in. Our fundraising goal was $25,000 and as a school, we have raised $21,585 so far. The last day to make donations is October 4th. Thank you to all of the families for your support so far! This is the biggest fundraiser we have each year and it contributes to classroom support, field trips and fun activities for students and their families put on by the PTO. So far, the top classroom in elementary school is Mrs. Rice’s room and in middle school is Mrs. MacKeen’s homeroom. Only a little bit more to go Stuart Mesa!

Lamar Jackson vs Patrick Mahomes and Taylor Swift was the main reason why this match up ever happened. With Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson being considered the best quarterbacks this new season had to offer, it was no wonder this game was so close. Ravens Lost Kansas City Upset Ravens with 1 Touchdown game. In this very well played game by both Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes was the one to come up top with over 250 yards. The Ravens unfortunately lost with the last play of the game they almost had a touchdown with Isaiah Likely but he was out of bounds when he caught the ball.

On Tuesday, September 10, the political debate between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris occurred. The debate sparked the interest of many students. Quotes from the presidential candidates found their way into popular background audio tracks on various viewing platforms, as well as remixes of phrases. Many issues were debated and discussed, including taxes, the economy, the environment, and foreign policy. These issues affect us, as the new generation, because the choices made in November will change the world we grow into.
A Student's Perspective on the Fun Run
Hey, bulldogs I'm here to tell you the importance of the fun run. The fun run is a race with no finish line where we run around a track while people spray powdered chalk at us, covering us in chalk. They spray chalk at us to encourage us to run faster but don't worry...if you get thirsty there's a water station to get a drink. Note to self: Bring Goggles.
