New Assistant Principal
As our new vice principal, Mrs. Vasquez is determined to foster a Bulldog community that is not only accepting but also welcoming. “We must all first seek to understand, versus being understood,” encourages Mrs. Vasquez. Through this we gain the ability to facilitate a positive environment that accepts everyone despite their differences and diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, Mrs. Vasquez believes that every Bulldog has a voice to their own story, and urges that we should never forget about leading through kindness and empathy because everyone deserves to be honored and valued.

Nicholas Miller- Student Philanthropist
Nicholas Miller, a 8th grade student at Stuart Mesa, donated his hair to Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids which is a franchise that specializes in haircuts for kids that are 14 or below. Sharkey’s Cuts isn’t any ordinary barbershop; it provides kids with a unique amount of chairs or seats. For example they can pick cars like a police cruiser, Frozen jeep, fire engine, Spider-man Super Car, or even a Lightning Mcqueen Race Car! Sharkey’s Cuts for kids doesn’t just provide cool chairs, it also has a game station with all kinds of consoles to watch their favorite cartoons or sports events. Sharkey cuts also has a tween lounge for kids who might want their own private area that focuses on pampering and fun, with mini-cures and glamour rings. Nicholas Miller donated his hair because he wanted to help those that weren’t able to grow hair or had permanent hair loss. He also donated two and a half feet of hair!

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is a time where students can enjoy the spirit of reading for a whole week! Students can come into the library at certain times when granted permission to leave the classroom and go to the book fair or attend after school. They had books, supplies and posters, and it was a very exciting experience for the students. However students had a great time experiencing the book fair. Events like these are an opportunity for students to find more books that they’re into and make their days more enjoyable! The profits provided in the book fair help support literacy by providing books to students, classrooms, and our library. Mrs. Cruz was able to provide teachers with some “wish list” books, give out prizes for reading achievement and host a contest for students to win money for the fair. Thank you to the PTO who helped us have this fun event.

New Pirates Day
On March 12, 8th-grade students attended Oceanside High School for the “New Pirates Day”. It was a day when students went to the basketball gym and saw many clubs, sports, and academic classes they could join during their freshmen year. We saw some of the teachers, Athletic director, some coaches, and some soon-to-be teammates. This day showed how truly great Oceanside Highschool is.
Students signed up for those things to get emailed about tryouts, and when club meetings or classes start. We then went to their auditorium and were shown classes and pathways you could take that would give you college credit during your high school years. The cheer team also performed some dances and cheers as we looked at classes. We met the principal, Dr.Skylar Garrahy, and met some of the counselors. Many of our students enjoyed this day and are excited for their freshman year at Oceanside High School!

Marine Fitness P.E. Challenge
The Marine Fitness Challenge is an annual event hosted by Marines, bringing together students of all grades to test their physical and mental toughness. From intense tug-of-war battles to high-speed relay races, the competition pushes participants to their limits in strength, endurance, and teamwork. The challenge includes activities like push-ups, obstacle courses, and endurance runs, all designed to build resilience and discipline. While there are no winners or trophies, the true reward comes from pushing past personal limits, working together, and embracing the spirit of teamwork and determination. It’s an event that fosters leadership, a sense of achievement, and a deep bond between participants.
Some of the activities involved are relay races that include battle ropes, hula hooping, and running through small arched hoops. The activities get more complicated by grade level and involve more exercise. The Marines there encourage you to participate in some activities like tug-of-war. They offer words of motivation to keep students going, reinforcing the value of perseverance, teamwork, and pushing through the most challenging moments. The event builds companionship and leaves everyone with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

Much Ado About Nothing Field Trip
The Much Ado About Nothing play took place at Oceanside High School; other schools also came to watch the play! English playwright William Shakespeare wrote Much Ado About Nothing. The play is set in Messina, Italy, and tells the story of Beatrice and Benedict, who always argue. Their friends make a plan to make them fall in love with each other. The play is a comedy as it contains humor and a happy ending! In my personal opinion, I absolutely loved the play! The things that stood out to me were the costumes, equipment, and the type of English that was used during the play. While it went on, it was hard to understand the English because it was old-timey English, and some of the words that they used were either big ones or, for example, there was whom, and thy. But as I got used to it, I started to understand what certain words meant in a sentence. Sadly, the play had to stop midway because it was time for the schools to leave and return, but they passed out tickets to the night show where you could come at night and watch the whole play and get to see the ending!

This past month on March 14, 2025, from 3:00pm-9:00pm people from our school, Stuart Mesa, went to Raising Canes here on Camp Pendleton to raise money for journalism’s upcoming field trip. All that was needed to help out was to mention the fundraiser at the register, and 15% of your purchase will go toward supporting the journalism group. Whether you're craving Cane’s famous chicken fingers, Texas toast, or their irresistible Canes sauce, every bite helps make a difference. This is the perfect excuse to gather your family and friends to take a break from cooking and enjoy great food or supporting our journalism class.

Classes At Stuart Mesa
2nd-3rd
In Mrs. Ganun’s second-grade classroom, they are learning about expanded-form writing on 3-digit numbers and how to find 3-digit numbers in math. Students are learning their math on the Chromebook and working with their partners on how to learn the material they were given. While walking into Mrs. Ganuns class you can tell that the students enjoy working with one another and that when they need it they will always ask questions. Mrs Ganun’s class is currently reading fables written around the world. As the upcoming holiday Saint Patrick's Day is coming up she has put together an activity for her class where they will get to paint rainbows and write about what they would do if they found a pot of gold.

4th-5th
In 4th grade, Mrs. Sanford’s class were working in groups to write an opinion essay on why a banned book should or should not be banned and will be making a poster to support the banned book they chose. There were a lot of books that I also think should be banned and not be banned. Groups were putting in a lot of effort into their essays and posters.
In 5th grade, Mrs. Pederson class was outside reading books and doing a creation show and tell. It is when the students create a drawing, comic book, or just something fun! There were funny comics and nice drawings. The students that were listening could ask questions about what the student up front made.
