Some political headlines of December include President Jimmy Carter's passing on December 29th, 2024, and an overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The French Prime Minister Michel Barnier resigned on the fourth as well.
Inauguration Day occurred on January 20th. Inauguration Day is the day that the elected president gets sworn into office. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance were sworn in as President and Vice President respectively, and within the first week, Donald Trump signed a record of 35 executive orders. One of the most talked about things to happen in politics this January though, was the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which took place on January 18th, 2025. The popular app TikTok has been talked about getting banned for a while, but United States users’ fears were confirmed when they opened their app to see a message stating that TikTok is no longer available. The message was replaced in less than 24 hours with a “Welcome Back” message crediting Donald Trump for having TikTok available again in the U.S. However, the ban was only delayed while the law was still in place.

Winter Holidays
Article By: Carla and I'zel Acosta
Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Lunar New Year possess considerably diverse religious and cultural origins. Their strikingly popular characteristic, however, is the powerful way they bring people together in an intensely passionate celebration of significant values: family, community, and hope. They provide a time for self-reflection on their lives and they honor traditions while envisioning a brighter future. Holiday traditions such as candle lighting, and gift-giving, along with family gatherings promote togetherness; these customs also promote a deep sense of belonging.

Students in Business
Article By: Anthony Devine
In Stuart Mesa we have many students who have at home businesses and two sisters at our school share a business with their mom. Isabella, an eighth-grader, and her younger sister Gabby, a fifth-grader, run a small business with their mom, selling handmade cups and bracelets. Every week, the girls come up with new designs, drawing inspiration from trends at school or their own creative ideas. Isabella is in charge of marketing and setting up their online shop, while Gabby helps with packaging and adding personal touches to each order, like custom messages. Their mom provides guidance on managing the business side of things, like pricing and keeping track of sales, while also encouraging the girls to be independent and responsible. Together, they’ve built a solid customer base, including family, friends, and even people they’ve met through social media.
