At kindergarten round up last April, you received some information about paperwork and medical appointments that you will need for your kindergartener. If you could not make it that day be sure you call up to the school if you are unsure of what you will need to have before school starts.
I know for sure you will need to show us: a birth certificate, a completed home language survey, proof of a physical appointment , vision appointment, dental appointment, and a list of immunizations for kindergarteners.
If you need more information on this, you can call the school office and ask to speak with Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Carlson, or Mrs. Conkel. (402-747-2091)
Here is the school supply list again. Feel free to bring some or all of these items on Open House night to lighten the load on the first day.
If you click on the School Supply List heading above, it will take you to a page showing you example pictures of all of the items on the list so you know what you are looking for!
Each morning, the doors to the main entrance of the school (office doors by the Charles Jeffrey Elementary sign) will open at 7:45 for students to come in. We prefer that all students enter through those doors and walk down the hallway to their classrooms (ours will be a long walk!) then head to breakfast/walk and talk.
When students come in, they will set all of their belongings on the floor outside the classroom and then walk straight to walk and talk. We do not want students to come in their classrooms before 8:10 because teachers may be at a morning duty or a teacher meeting.
Breakfast is optional, but if your student wants to have breakfast, they need to be in the cafeteria prior to 8:05 to be served. Students who do not eat breakfast are to walk laps around the New Gym on the walking track (hallway).
We have one snack time in the morning at around 10:00 each day. Students also have the opportunity to eat breakfast at the school in the morning between 7:45 and 8:05.
It is very important to me that the kids eat a HEALTHY snack during this time in the morning, because it gives me the chance to discuss healthy eating habits, and sometimes I like to bring a fruit or vegetable that they may not have tried before to get them exposed to new foods.
That being said, I will be providing snack each day for the kids, and I will post the "menu" on our weekly news video so you know what we will be having. I will offer ONE snack choice each day which will usually be a fruit, vegetable, trail mix, or cracker type snack. Students who do not want to try the snack, will not get a snack, but still have the option to order milk at an additional cost.
For a few years now, I have had a "fund" that parents could donate towards for the cost of snacks. After keeping track last year, I roughly spent $20 each week for 5 days of snacks. If you would like to help out, I have a Venmo account that is the easiest way to keep track (@Miranda-Ericson-1), or you can send cash or a check (written out to me because I am purchasing the snacks, not the school).
It is usually easier for me to buy the snacks, but if have extra produce/fruit at home or would like to bring a snack for the class (around 18 students) just let me know and we can make that work! For example, last year we had a student bring some delicious fresh apples from her grandma's apple tree!
This year our specials schedule will depend on the even or odd calendar day! If it is an "even" day (2nd, 4th, 6th etc.), the kids will have Tech/Guidance with Mrs. Zelasney and PE with Mrs. Kumpf. If it is an "odd" day (1st, 3rd, 5th etc.), the kids will have Art with Mrs. Klemmensen.
Evens: Tech/Guidance (1:20-1:55) and PE (2:00-2:35)
Odds: Art (1:20-1:55) and Music (2:00-2:35)
On "even"/PE days, your child will need an extra set of PE shoes that they keep at school to wear if they are going to the New gym. Some days, if it is nice outside, they will go outside for PE so it is always best to still wear socks and tennis shoes to school on even days just in case!
If you are unable to get new PE shoes for the school year, please let me know! We may have some at school that your child can use and I believe they are having a Back to School PE shoe drive to collect shoes for those who need them!
On a normal day, students will be dismissed at 3:25 (1:25 on 1:30 dismissal days). We will then walk the students to the south doors (doors by the New Gym parking lot facing the big OSCEOLA orange wall). When you or a family member comes to pickup, you may park in any of the parking stalls in the parking lot (except the very front row by the doors so the kids can see cars coming). Especially with your little ones, it helps if you get out of your car and wave or even walk up to get your child so it is easy for them to see you!
Bus students will exit out the front office doors with a teacher/para and they will be escorted to the correct bus.
If at all possible, please try to call the school to notify the office ASAP or at least by 3:00 PM of any changes to your child's drop off or pickup routine. Calls or texts at 3:20 make it difficult for us to find where your child needs to go!
I will have LOTS of information for you at Open House on August 13th, but if you have questions about the upcoming school year, do not hesitate to call, email, or text me. I am looking forward to another wonderful year in kindergarten!
