Creativity and exploration at work! Read below to learn about an exploration of the Play Antigone between students at OSC here in Sri Lanka, and students in USA, and Colombia!

Congratulations to our students and Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Jackson who were involved last year in an exploration of Sophocles' play Antigone. This project was in collaboration with students and teachers at the French American International School in San Francisco, and the Liceo Frances Louis Pasteur School in Bogota. Michelle Haner, the Theatre Director at the French American International School, has compiled a video of extracts of the work, discussions and rehearsals of the process, which we are sharing with you https://youtu.be/Ut-41K6AO2I Within this video you can hear extracts from a composition by our students and see our Theatre students talk about their involvement with directing scenes from the play. Incredibly proud that we were able to collaborate on such an amazing project within the boundaries of COVID!

An update on our staff DEIJ training!

Over the past two months our DEIJ Staff Training Team have focused on a variety of topics in our DEIJ training. We have been exploring concepts such as liberation, and the neocolonial nature of international schooling and what "Performative-Ally-ship" looks like in schools and society. We've grappled terms such as "linguicism, xenophobia, colorism, featurism, and anti-blackness." We are reflecting on what is new, divergent and difficult for us about the terms and concepts as community, and how white supremacy or anti-blackness benefit and harms us, and how do we challenge these concepts. Our work has been challenging, brave, and vulnerable. But we know that as we work hard we will better understand the systems that harm. We are asking ourselves, what is the dominate culture in our community, what is the dominate narrative in our community and how is the dominant culture and narrative harming our community. Lastly, we are asking ourselves, how can we be active traitors, active disrupters, and active revolutionaries to the status quo.
Over the next few months the training will take us deeper and deeper into these concepts. We will take our learnings to create a DEIJ statement for our school and work together with our parents, staff and alumni to strengthen DEIJ across our school through the Strategic Planning initiatives.
