A Message from our Interim Board Chair - Mr. Rahul Bhan


Dear OSC Community, Welcome back to the new school year. While we would have rather started with on campus learning, the health and welfare of everyone is paramount and we will have to see what the coming months bring in terms of an in-person return. Our students, their parents, teachers and administration continue to show remarkable and sustained resilience. Thank you to all for a smooth start to the school year.
Last week, I accepted the position of Interim Board Chair. This came about because we had a late summer resignation from Ari Nathan after a family decision that their children will attend another school abroad. While we accepted Ari's decision, the Board wasn't quite ready to have Ari step away. Because he is no longer eligible as an elected member, we appointed him as Designated Director due to his extraordinary experience in international school governance and policy work. He will be tasked with steering the school forward as the Chair of the Governance Committee along with special projects to ensure that the school's bylaws and board policies are updated.

Those of you familiar with the school’s governance will notice that we are currently one board member short of the seven elected Directors as indicated in our newly passed articles. Therefore, the very first thing we have done is formed a Nominations Committee which will be laying out the process for board recruitment as soon as possible. Within the next few weeks we will be recruiting a new board member.
While at this time there is only one vacancy on the Board, we are hoping to be able to maintain a database of interested, eligible volunteers to tap into for those upcoming vacancies. Board Committees for 2021/2022The Board has two long-standing Committees:
1) Finance Committee (Chair, Jelmer Kuyvenhoven, Elected Member)2) Governance Committee (Chair, Kumar Sangakkara, Elected Member)3) Nominations Task Force (Chair Tiia Juhkam, Designated Member)
The Terms of Reference and Goals for all committees are found in our OPEN BOARD WEBSITE for all parents.
In addition, as things develop and we are able to assess the pandemic’s longer-term impacts and path, the Board will form other working committees. For example, on campus development once this restarts, the working committee could include not just parents, but also students who are the primary constituency of the school.
