How to get yourself ready for Remote Learning

1 . In order to access your Google Classroom you will need the following:

1 x device from the icons shown below and also 1 x internet access and your 1 x Ormiston Denes Google Account

You will need to be connected to the internet via your home broadband service (Virgin Media, BT, Sky, Talk Talk, PlusNet) or a 4G mobile data network (Vodafone, EE, O2).

Please ensure you know your Ormiston Denes Google account email address and password details. @ormistondenes.co.uk

2. On a desktop or laptop device you will need to install the Google Chrome Browser for the best experience

Google Chrome is much the same as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Edge, Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox web browsers, The main advantage is that it is designed to integrate 100% with all Google Apps and your academy account. Visit: www.google.com/intl/en_uk/chrome/ to download the latest version. Once downloaded run the installer and follow the instructions . (Chromebooks don't need to install Chrome. You will sign into your Google Chromebook with your Ormiston Denes Academy details and Google Chrome comes pre-installed.) Once installed you will be able to sign into your new browser. This is shown in step 4 below.

3. On a tablet/iPad or a mobile device visit the relevant App store and download Google Classroom.

On your device you will need to download the Google Classroom App. This is normally via the Apple App Store or on Android Google Play. It is also advisable to have the complete set of Google Apps downloaded as these may help when editing your Google Classroom files and any work assigned. These include: Google Docs, Sheets, Slides. Also so that you can access your stored files, Google Drive is recommended. Google Drive for education is an unlimited storage space so you won't have to worry about filling up your devices memory storage space with all that hard work.

4. Connecting to the internet and your Google account with academy student user details

In order to access your Google Classroom you will also need to be able to connect to your Google academy account which is hosted on the internet. For this you will need to have internet access. This is normally provided at home via your internet service provider (ISP) such as Virgin Media, Sky, Talk Talk, PlusNet and BT Broadband. Connect your device to this home internet via Wi-Fi or a cable connection before attempting to move onto the next account syncing section. If you have no home broadband, the other option is to use a mobile device carrier network such as Vodafone, EE, Tesco Mobile, O2 and 3. PLEASE NOTE; This can become expensive so check your mobile data allowance in your contract before using this option. It is also recommended that a strong 4G signal is used. Your student username details will normally be in the following format: firstname.surname@ormistondenes.co.uk This is your academy student Google account details .

You should now be ready to begin syncing with your newly installed Google Apps.
