Dr. Nirmala Kandadai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Oregon State University since Fall 2022.
Background.
She completed her PhD from The University of Texas at Austin in 2012. She worked in National Energetics, Austin Texas as a Laser Scientist from 2012-2016. She led her team in designing and building high power ultrafast laser systems, which included successfully building the front end of a 10 PW laser system for European Union’s Extreme Light Infrastructure Beamlines facility (ELI-Beamlines). She joined Boise State in 2016 as a research assistant professor and then worked as a tenure track assistant professor from 2019-2022.
Her current research areas focusses on areas of laser material interaction such as laser sintering for in space manufacturing, designing and employing fiber-optic sensors in extreme environments; mid IR lasers; laser ablation of thin films;
Dr. Kandadai is a Senior IEEE member and has won CAES and AFRL faculty fellowship
