Each year members may enroll their students in the WI-AATG German Speaking Contest. Students in middle school and high school, Levels I, II, III and IV/V, learn a poem and present the poem in front of a judge or judges. They are evaluated on pronunciation, interpretation, memorization, etc. Then they present an extemporaneous talk or conversation with a partner on a topic they draw. Level III and level IV/V students have two choices - they can present a conversation with a partner or they can retell one of three selected fairy tales in German.
Poems and conversation topics are different for each level. Each participant receives a combined score (poem + speaking), and the top scorers from each level receive awards chosen by their regional organizer. Each participant will receive a certificate for his/her participation. Students who score 38 to 40 points at their regional contest will advance to the State German Speaking Contest.
This year we will have 4 regional competition sites. *Please register your students/school with your regional contact person using the aligned digital registration form link below.
Registration fee checks should be made out to: AATG WIS Chapter and are $4.00 per student (AATG member) or $6.00 per student (non-AATG member).
Please click Contest Resources below to view the poems, situations, and judging ballots for each level. If you have any questions, please contact the WI-AATG State Speaking Coordinator, Carley Goodkind: cgoodkind@greenfield.k12.wi.us.
I hope that you will consider participating in this worthwhile opportunity. ~ Carley Goodkind
