Ord's FCCLA Chapter President, Annabel Zaruba took her oath to serve the District in her best capacity and assist the District in her duties of Vice President of STAR for the 2021-2022 school year.
On October 20th, 2021 25 Ord FCCLA Members attended the District Leadership Conference in Chambers. Members learned more about FCCLA and attended breakout sessions to gain new skills! FCCLA members in the district also participated in a collective food drive. Members of the Ord FCCLA Chapter brought home three large boxes of canned and non-perishable food items to donate to our local food pantry.
Our community organized a 5K Fun Run in October to bring awareness to mental health. Our chapter volunteered to hand out water to competitors and helped set up games. Some of our own FCCLA Chapter members even participated in the Fun Run!
Ord FCCLA Members participated in the Ord Elementary School's Family Literacy Night. Members planned and organized a booth to encourage young readers and practice spelling words in shaving cream. Students had so much fun and FCCLA members enjoyed the opportunity to engage students in a fun activity to promote literacy!
The Ord FCCLA Chapter hosts the annual Halloween Parade each year. At this event, elementary-aged students gather at the town courthouse and FCCLA members lead students around the square to trick-or-treat at local businesses. As part of this event, there is a sponsored costume contest in each age division. Winners receive Ord "Chamberbucks" to spend at local businesses. One of our goals for our chapter this year was raising funds to attend conferences and plan activities for our members. We decided to host an Eileen's Cookie Dough Fundraiser through the month of November. Our goal was to sell 200 tubs of cookie dough, but our chapter exceed that goal and sold over 480 tubs! We raised approximately $3,400! The cookie dough arrived just in time for holiday baking! Our Chapter President, Annabel, was the top seller and sold 45 tubs!
In December, our community hosted an event called the "North Pole Express." Mrs. Claus (AKA Ms. Hornickel) and her elves served hot chocolate and cookies at the library to elementary-aged students and their families on their way to visit Santa and his reindeer!
Our chapter hosted the District 9 FCCLA STAR Event Competition this year on January 26th. 14 of our chapter members participated in STAR Projects this year. There were over 150 participants, advisors, evaluators, and volunteers in attendance! Check out how our members did in the Awards tab.
During the week of February 14th-18th, the Ord FCCLA Chapter participated in National FCCLA Week. On Monday, members handed out lollipops with information on teen dating violence in order to bring awareness to the subject, as well as having a chapter movie night. On Tuesday, the FCCLA, FBLA, and FFA chapters were encouraged to bring in canned food items. On Wednesday, our chapter hosted a Staff Appreciation Breakfast. On Thursday, we visited the elementary school and made hamburger helper bags for them to take home. We wore red on Friday and took a chapter picture. Our main goal was to make it count!
On February 28th, 20 Ord FCCLA members attended the Peer Education Conference in Kearney, Nebraska. Members attended breakout sessions, learned more about STAR events, heard from speakers and were able to learn more about FCCLA!
On March 26th, several FCCLA Members put together a booth for our community's kid's health fair. This is an annual event that draws in many children and families in our community and surrounding communities to inform parents and children about health related topics. Our booth's theme this year was about nutrition. We had a game set up where children had to name foods in each food group and we handed out activity booklets with information and word games about MyPlate and the food groups!
In April, 14 FCCLA members attended the Nebraska State Leadership Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska! All members who competed in STAR Events this year were able to go to state and we had several groups compete! Results are as follows:
Aracely Negrete and Lillie Shoemaker- Level 1 Chapter in Review Display- Gold Medal, State Champion, National Qualifier
Hannah Klein- Level 2 Career Investigation- Gold Medal, State Runner-Up, National Qualifier
Jazmen Birkel- Level 3 Professional Presentation- Silver Medal
Trinity Chatfield- Level 1 Professional Presentation- Bronze Medal
Hannah Klein was also selected to serve as the 2022-2023 Nebraska State Peer Officer Historian of the Career Leader Team! We are so proud!
