This assignment was to create a headstone for a character that died in the novel Frankenstein. Which was a part of our unit on horror specifically gothic horror, and analyzing and reading texts based on the theme of horror. of I chose Caroline Beaufort Frankenstein, the mother of Frankenstein, as her death was a propulsion of the plot and an essential part of Frankenstein's upbringing. I enjoyed this assignment because It allowed me to draw some graphic design elements to create a headstone for ELA.
The objective of the assignment was to develop a horror story with a theme of technology going wrong, this assignment was a part of our unit on analyzing gothic horror, and the ways authors of that theme use writing conventions to elevate tension, and mystery within novels. This assignment challenged me to creatively write about technology, and research some technology and ways it could go wrong. This led me to write about a digital assistant (Siri) going wrong, and, the many ways that technology can intrude upon our personal life had it gained a conscious.
The task of this assignment was to create a blackout poem, on any issue or societal problem. A blackout poem is when you take a newspaper of a written piece and redact words to create poetry. For instance, my blackout poem was on the sensitive topic of guns, and school shootings. The components of this assignment were to find a written piece, import it into the tool Canva, and redact words of said written piece to formulate one's own poem. The blackout poem was completed as a part of our unit about social issues in the world or our own country.
The task of this assignment was to analyze a poem or song of your choice using six ways to analyze a text. These are, paraphrasing, the speaker (who is speaking, their background, and time period). turns (a shift in the text, tone, speaker, setting, or something in the text that changes), tools (metaphors, similes, etc.), The title, and the theme of the text. For my presentation, I chose "Working For The Knife" by Mitski. Her song is focused on the perpetual cycle of capitalism and how the system feeds into the illusion of choice, and how Mitski and many others feel like they're designed to live and die in that system.
