Explanation: For this task, we were assigned with discussing the ethical standards of forensic scientists. Eventually relating these standards with the cases of two forensic scientists- Sonja Farak and Annie Dookhan. These two scientists falsified many evidence that incriminated thousands of people. Through this assignment I learned about a code of ethics that forensics scientists are meant to follow for their own safety and the success of their work.
Reflection: In this project my team and I did a fantastic job researching these two scientists which were similar but also different, while also researching methods/ethics that could have been placed in order to prevent this action. We took time and educated ourselves greatly on the topic in order to present in front of our peers with much information. This assignment goes to show that anybody can have a breakdown at any given time if they are being put under too much stress regardless of what they are doing.
Explanation: For this assignment, we were tasked with learning about our chosen topic (Improper Forensics) using information from the Innocence Project, as well as strategies for preventing wrongful convictions. We also had to research an actual case of someone who was wrongfully convicted because of that topic. Through this assignment I learned about a case "Ford Heights Four" where a woman, Paula Gray was wrongly convicted of the rape and murder of a couple alongside four other men.
Reflection: The most challenging part of this project was researching for ways to fix the system to help minimize how improper forensics affects people in their daily life. To improve this assignment I would firstly educate myself more of the case so that way I would be able to talk more on what happened, then I would dig a little deeper figuring out how the suspect was arrested, if there was any bias, and how that could potentially be fixed.
