Explanation: To get reacquainted with the literary elements and terms associated with literary analysis, the assignment was to collaborate with peers to identify and analyze an assigned area of AP Literature and Composition. The group’s task is to present their interpretation and analysis of the literary element in a way that teaches their insights to the class.
Reflection: Through this assignment I was able to showcase my understanding of different themes that are ongoing throughout the book. Especially the plot since that was the area of focus for this presentation. This assignment allowed us to learn more about what goes on in Afghanistan and connect real modern day connections to what goes on in the book.
Explanation: In this assignment we had to write narratives or create a presentation to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, and well-chosen details. This is to demonstrate an understanding of the themes, symbols, characters, and literary devices and elements of Sing, Unburied, Sing, by Jesmyn Ward. For this assignment I wrote a 2-5 page research paper on the history of Parchman Prison.
Reflection: Through this assignment, I got to learn more about Parchman prison, including the fact that it is an actual prison that mistreated all of its prisoners especially children. It made me think deeper about the book and realize just how accurate it was mainly because the author's uncle was a prisoner himself at Parchman.
Explanation: In this assignment we had to analyze, and teach a poem of our choice to the class. After analyzing many of the elements of the poem, we had to formulate an interpretation of the poem. This was to write 1– page paper in response to the question: “What is the meaning of your chosen poem, and how does the author convey that meaning through poetic devices and elements?
Reflection: Through this assignment my teammates and I got to learn more about poetry. We had to look and feel the words from different point-of-views in order to process it before we presented in front of our classmates. Firstly it was challenging choosing and relating to a poem but after applying what we had learn in class before it became easier to do.
Explanation: In this assignment we were tasked to pick a character from the book called The Great Gatsby and create a bio poem about them in order to show a deeper understanding of that specific character.
Reflection: Through this assignment I got to learn more about different styles of writing. I got to think deeper of the characters of Gatsby regarding their qualities whether it be emotional, physical, or mental.
