For Hispanic Heritage Month, we had to select what we wanted to do, I chose to do a poem, this year the prompt is Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power and Progress in America. I was able to write a poem that was quite accurate to the prompt.
While we were on WW1, we had to do research on topics of WW1, me and my group had the topic of propaganda and we had to write and present on it. For the research paper it was me and other one of my group members were the only ones who actually tried to do the paper. But we did not write what was expected and focused on another perspective of propaganda, we ended up needs to write and explain more.
In this benchmark we had to read about President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) and his first inaugural address, as well as the Roaring 20s, before FDR ran for office. In which he had described some of the plans he had in mind to help the nation out of its dark times it was in. The benchmark was not too difficult but did indeed have a lot to read which made it a bit difficult.
While learning about World War 2, and the events that happened during the war, in groups we had to research a topic and present it. My group did pretty well, but I was not able to present as well as I could and could work on my presentation skills. This was not a hard assingment but needed more time to be put into it for it to have come out better.
While learning about the Cold War, there were 14 new vocabulary words that were new and had to learn the lexicon. The quiz was a narrative quiz that had to use at least 10 of the vocabulary to demostrate that I have understood the words completely. The quiz was not too hard already knowing the definition of most of the words, the main errors in the quiz were from grammar.
While doing SAT prep, joining and separating and fragments were one of the areas that I need to learn more on, and grammar was the part of SAT prep. As a whole, grammar is not relatively easy for me and I struggle with it but once I took the retake I did do better but not as good as I would have liked.
While learning about the Civil Rights Movements and going more in depth about the events that occurred then we had been assigned to read "The White Man's Guilt" by James Baldwin. Ultimately we had to write a reflection based how we felt and thoughts on the reading. Overall this reading had changed my perspective on the way people use words and write and I was able to put my thoughts into words from what I understood.
During the time that we been learning about the Civil Rights Movement, one of the assignments that were assigned to us was to write a historical narrative on a civil rights unknown hero. And among the other good choices that were available , I choose Dr. Carter G. Woodson. From doing research on him and his life I was able to write a narrative that I am overall not satisfied with since it needed more work put into it.
