SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS
For this assignment we were tasked to write an essay analyzing the State V. Richard Craft Case. Using the sources provided and additional research we had to create an essay that contained the motives of Richard Crafts, why the case was significant or unusual, and which testimony was most crucial in turning the case. I chose this assignment because it showcases my strengths in writing essays, along with analyzing the case. This is probably something we will do often in class, we'll be looking at documentaries and true crimes and analyze the case like this assignment.
This was a interactive assignment, a virtual crime scene where we were able to go around and gather clues, as-well as interrogate suspects and witnesses. This assignment was focused on our ability to observe a crime scene and find out who had committed the murder. Although I was unable to correctly get the murder, I was able to guess the murder weapon and enjoyed doing the simulation. The most challenging part was deciding between the last two suspects, in my case, one of them was innocent and one was the actual murder but I ended choosing the innocent suspect. If I could redo this assignment, I would have looked a-little further into both the suspects, try to see if they had any witnesses and comapre their motives.
The "CSI Effect" is the effect of crime TV on real juries. This effect creates an expectation of abundandt evidence in every case. This effects the conviction of true cases and can ultimately lead to the release of potential offenders. The essay I wrote, goes over the pros and cons of the effect and generally what the CSI Effect is. Im happy with my final draft of this essay, I provided valid to points to the cons as well as providing a counter claim.
This essay goes over the demise of the Anthropometry system. This was a system used to identify People using measurements. It was popularly used by police departments and criminal investigators however, it showed deficiencies and proved to be inaccurate in many cases. This lead to the fall of the measurement system and began the use of fingerprints, which proved to be more accurate and efficient. This essay could be improved, some of my evidence and analysis isnt as strong as wanted. It was hard to find supporting evidence.
This essay was on the JonBenet Ramsey case, a real case that took place in Colorado. JonBenet, a 6 year old girl, was allegedly kidnapped from her home but later found dead in her family basement. The case remains unsolved, her murderer is still a mystery. In the essay, we analyze the case and then make a statement on what we believed happened and who killed her.
This project was a video in which we create a skit revolving around a crime to demonstrate the steps of crime scene processing. It was a fun but helpful way of learning how forensic science comes to play in many cases, what steps are taken, and how they are taken. The ability to plan and act out whatever scene we wanted made this project extremely fun.
This project focused on a serial killer, analyzing their habits and traits to compare to common traits of a serial killer. We did research on their early life, family, education, and created a timeline based on their crimes committed. It was interesting to learn about serial killers traits because they all shared some form of similarity. Overall, it was an interesting project and was very helpful in undertsanding the science behind a serial killers mind.
The Innocence project is an organization that focuses on helping those who have been wrongfully convicted. In this project, we chose a case in which they were able to free someone from jail after being wrongfully convicted. We learned about eyewitness identification and how common it is for it to occur. It was interesting to learn that sometimes eyes can deceive what we've truly seen.
