The school social worker at AL Stanback Middle School are advocates who provide a variety of professional services to support students in identifying and achieving academic, career, personal, social and emotional goals. Social workers promote and support the educational process by strengthening and supporting parent and family involvement, engaging community resources, and assisting with attendance concerns.
The primary role of the school social worker is to:
Build trusting relationships with students, families, and school personnel
Provide home visits/meet families to understand and address barriers to learning
Link students and families with school and community resources
Encourage families to effectively participate in their child’s education
Help families understand school policies, services, and programs
Develop/facilitate/coordinate prevention activities and intervention strategies
