Building Strong Family & Consumer Sciences Programs in Montana
e Framework for Montana Family and Consumer Sciences is
a guidance document being developed by FCS professionals to frame what it means to have a high quality Family and Consumer Sciences program.
The Framework will include:
a program overview,
pathway course expectations and
course standards as identified from the National FCS Education Standards, the foundation of all FCS programs in Montana.
These questions will be answered within this document:
What is a Framework?
How is the Framework organized?
What courses and content are considered Family & Consumer Sciences?
What is difference between comprehensive and career cluster pathway FCS programs?
What courses are considered comprehensive and which are career cluster specific?
Learn how the Modernized Career Clusters has impacted the MT FCS Program courses and sequence across comprehensive programs (middle level and secondary), pathway and additional supplementary courses.
Class 4 Courses are also identified which can be taught by Class 4 teacher indicated as follows:
Hospitality/Culinary in yellow highlight
Early Childhood in pink highlight
Education in blue highlight
Textiles in orange highlight
All courses can be taught with a Class 1, 2, 5A and 5B license in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
Just as the Framework for FCS: Course Information Table above lists all FCS courses recognized in Montana, this document lists the courses recognized for middle level followed by the standards for each.
Ensure to reference the Middle Level Family and Consumer Sciences Standards found here immediately under the FCS National Standards titled "Middle Level Framework" and under the "Resources" tab on this google site.
NOTE: * denotes middle level courses may count toward high school FCS pathways if standards are taught and the FCS consultant is notified of this request. If a middle level course is counted, it means in content only and a full 2.0 credits of high school credit are to be offered at the high school level to meet Perkins qualifications.
Foundational Courses ( NOTE: Pathway specific foundational courses are found under individual pathways. Also note, middle level FCS courses may be recognized toward secondary level foundational learning. See more under Middle Level FCS above.)
