Teacher Project/Activity Planner
This form might be helpful when planning fieldtrips, activities and projects.
Consider using this form with students as they plan a food lab as a way to document they have read the recipe and the steps to follow. Instructions for completion are included on the sheet. This will be used to compile a master grocery list on the "Grocery Store List" sheet provided.
These sheets are to be reviewed by you, the instructor for errors or additional notes and handed back the day of the lab. You may collect them at the end, or allow students to take home.
This sheet is used to create a master grocery store list for purchasing supplies for a food lab by reviewing the "FCS Kitchen Lab Plan Sheets" (1 per kitchen) and combining foods and amounts. It is suggested you complete one per course, but then combine multiple course supplies onto one main master list for purchasing.
It can be assigned to a student to compile , sent to the grocery store for compiling and delivery, or used personally as the teacher of record.
Keep each and attach receipts to create a record keeping system for your food budget.
A graduation requirement to include 1/2 credit (meaning .5 credit or one semester) was added as a graduation requirement beginning with the 2026 graduating class. There are a number of existing courses (many of which are career and technical education) which can fill this requirement, including several Family and Consumer Sciences classes.

III. Early Childhood Program Initiatives within FCS Education
The Child Development Associates (CDA) Credential embedded within a FCS Program is a best practice. For webinars on a deeper understanding with technical steps, see "Resources" under "Human Services" pathway which were part of the August 2024 JumpStart Series. The items below are referenced and discussed. within the webinar.
Each item is described here:
See below a listing of the 120 hours of CDA knowledge and skill instruction (by subject matter) a person needs to meet credential requirements . These are defined by level of CDA desired: Infant Toddler (blue font) and Preschool (Mauve ). This information was adapted from the CDA Competency Standards Student Workbooks. which each person working toward a CDA will be required to use. Purchase the workbooks here: https://yourcouncil.org/cfprssa/ecssashop.show_category?p_category_id=CDA_COMP_BOOKS
The "Child Development Associates (CDA) Crosswalk to the MT FCS Courses" guide on the right will indicate the connection between the CDA knowledge and skill expectations and the FCS course options.
NOTE: You will need to access course content and standards through the FCS Framework Menu link (look up by the five digit code).
The Three Phases of the CDA Credentialing Process allows better understanding of the work that needs to be completed and in what order.
The "CDA Eight Subject Area Illustration" is a general overview of the concepts of the 120 hours.
See additional items included which are self explanatory.
Developing a CDA program can be achieved through a three phase approach which is broken down here.
This illustration indicates how the subject matter required of the CDA relates to each other. This subject matter can be taught through FCS programs.
Montana has a lack of quality childcare across the State. All counties have a need for quality childcare. In an effort to meet this need, a state agency collaboration created a school-based childcare center toolkit to assist MT school districts in opening a center on site. This concept can address this local need, but also serve as a training site for FCS students who are part of a early childhood pathway and/or who are earning a CDA credential, as well as a recruitment strategy (childcare on site) for hiring new teachers who have small children.
State regulations, funding streams, how to steps and links to CTE pathways though FCS programs is provided in this toolkit.
Download the toolkit to the left and access the accompanying webinar (2 hrs.) here. (Passcode: mZVw3k&+)

Here is a direct link to the new Childcare Experience Program which simulates a childcare center in your classroom. The kit has four babies with support equipment to make the experience as real life as possible. Smaller doll can be used for Infant/Toddler CPR and the larger for a chocking simulation.
