Description:
Participants, high school students from Okinawa, Japan and multiple countries in Asia, will engage in a three-month online program of 1) lectures or workshops by experts in various fields in Asia, and 2) interactive and collaborative learning with peers from diverse cultures.
This program takes advantage of ICT technologies to incorporate the following perspectives into school education:
to extend the learning space beyond the four walls of a classroom;
to allow diverse people to work together without the constraints of time and space;
to make full use of educational resources in Asia.
Objectives:
By the end of the program, participants will have
Gained a deeper understanding of the social and cultural diversity of Asian countries, and an attitude of mutual respect based on it;
Gained intercultural communication skills required to communicate and share information with people from other cultures and social groups;
Improved their English skills as a result of attending lectures and workshops that are carried out in English, and working collaboratively on their projects in English with other participants from different countries.
Enhanced their expertise by joining a project of their choice based on their own interests.

*All online-meetings will be held on Saturdays from September 24 to December 17.

Eligibility and Language Requirements:
Submission of proof of English language proficiency is not required, but participants must have sufficient English proficiency to attend lectures and workshops in English, and work with other foreign students for their projects.
Program Requirements:
Participants are required to attend all lectures and workshops they have registered for.
Participants are required to conduct group research projects and give presentations during the program.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion from the Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education after successfully finishing the program.
Program Fee:
This program is free of charge.
*Participants, on their own, need to prepare the devices necessary to join the online activities in the program.
Number of Participants:
About 200 students between the ages of 15 and 18 from Asian countries in total (including 100 students from Okinawa)
*One teacher from every school participating in the program is asked to support their students during the program.
