5th Grade 

What do we do in 5th grade music? 

Through the use of singing, instrument playing and movement the students of 5th grade deepen their general music knowledge twice a week with Mrs. Ablan. During their time in general music they deepen their abilities in music literacy, composition, instrument playing techniques, proper singing techniques and ensemble playing. In addition to reading and creating music the students in 5th grade explore music of the the opera, orchestra, African American Spirituals as well as music from around the world. 

In addition to a music focus, my designed curriculum strongly supports the districts Social Emotional Learning standards and Social Justice Standards. 

We also spend time exploring various types of music like music from various cultures around the world, opera, folk and symphonic music.
