Welcome to 2nd Grade Music! 

What do we do in 2nd grade music? 

Through the use of singing, instrument playing and movement the students of 2nd grade deepen their general music knowledge twice a week with Mrs. Ablan. 2nd grade students work hard to identify rhythms, perform them and create with them. As their singing voices get stronger, we begin to sing more complex melodies that we sometimes sing and then solve on xylophones! 

As 2nd graders playing as an ensemble is very big focus so we do many activities where we perform all together. We do this through singing, instrument playing and movement. 

In addition to a music focus, my designed curriculum strongly supports the districts Social Emotional Learning standards and Social Justice Standards. 

We also spend time exploring various types of music such a music from various cultures around the world, Mariachi, opera, folk and symphonic.
